Saint Emilion and two of its satellites unite

by Hervé Lalau

Saint Emilion, Saint Emilion Grand Cru and two of its satellites, Lussac Saint Emilion and Puisseguin Saint Emilion, have just created a common union, the "Conseil des Vins de Saint Emilion", merging the three

syndicats. The new council will be the management body for Saint Emilion in the new structure launched this year at the national level by the INAO, in which some state missions are delegated to local associations. The president of the Conseil is Hubert de Bouard, the secretary general is Alain Laborie. This merger will certainly inspire other appellations, as it corresponds to the system’s logic.

Saint Emilion and Saint Emilion Grand Cru, which share the same vineyard area, represent 5,565 hectares and 250,000 hectlitres of wine; Lussac represents 1,471 ha and 72,000 hl, Puisseguin 756 ha and 35,000 hl.

The two other satellites, Montagne Saint Emilion and Saint Georges Saint Emilion, remain independent.
