An imperial bottle (6 litres) of Masseto 2001 reached the top bid at the wine auction held by Gelardini & Romani vintage at Merano’s International Wine Festival held on 10 November. The wine
from Marchesi de’Frescobaldi’s Tenuta dell’ Ornellaia, was sold for €6,948.
Other top bids went to: a Petrùs 1990 at €2,635; three bottles of Chateau Latour 2000 at €2,396; a magnum of Sassicaia 1985 at €2,276; three bottles of Masseto 2001 at €1,557; six bottles of Brunello Biondi Santi 1964 at €1,797, and one bottle of Biondi Santi 1955 at €958.
A high number of bidders, (70% of the lots sold) included collectors from France, Switzerland, Britain, Brazil and Korea, who participated by phoning in or with written offers, taking away that were available.
