Moët Hennessy will work with the sustainability initiative Clean Cargo in the future. The company wishes to make a stronger commitment to environmentally friendly sea transport as a large proportion of Moët Hennessy's goods are shipped by sea.

Clean Cargo was founded in 2004 and is an initiative of companies and brands such as H&M, Heineken, Ikea and Ralph Lauren, together with freight companies and forwarders. There are a total of 80 members worldwide. The aim is to reduce the environmental impact of global freight transport as much as possible. To this end, research is promoted, and best practices are exchanged. According to its own information, Clean Cargo represents about 85 percent of the worldwide container freight capacity. CO2 emissions were reduced by 9.6 percent between 2015 and 2018 and by 5.6 percent between 2018 and 2019, according to Clean Cargo.

"We are looking forward to working with Moët Hennessy in our collaborative effort to decarbonize maritime transport. Together, we can send strong market signals which demonstrate the strategic value of sustainability within freight operations," says Sarah Mouriño, BSR's Director of Transport and Green Freight.

Over the past five years, ocean freight has accounted for 85-90 percent of Moët Hennessy's shipments and nearly a third of its total CO2 emissions (about 10 percent for land and <1 percent for air). And while ocean freight remains the mode of transport with the lowest environmental impact, it still contributes to global warming and air and water pollution, the company says.

"We are fortunate to export our products all over the world and have always made it a priority to do so in the most environmentally sound way possible. The fine-tuning of our supply chain has enabled us to have 87 percent of our shipments by sea freight as of 2020. The partnership with Clean Cargo demonstrates our commitment to further improve our shipping practices for more sustainable transport solutions," says Alain Doudard, Supply Chain Director, Moët Hennessy.

The partnership is part of Moët Hennessy's environmental and social programme "Living Soils Living Together". aw
