Admittedly, the combination is not really obvious: what do animal lovers and wine fans have in common? But the non-profit animal welfare organisation Jameson Humane is convinced that animal love and wine love belong together. And so the association is holding its annual WineaPAWlooza 2021 charity event on 19 June.

Last year's edition of WineaPAWlooza, also virtual, was attended by more than 500 people from across the United States and around the world, the organisation reports. More than $1 million was raised for charity at the auction.

Lots feature iconic wines from Screaming Eagle, Opus One and Silver Oak, as well as extravagant wine and culinary experiences, such as dinner by celebrity chefs like Michelin-starred San Francisco chef Dominique Crenn, or meetings with famous athletes who, they say, also love wine and animals, such as baseball player Nomar Garciaparra, Mia Hamm of the US Olympic football team, Logan Ryan of the New York Giants, and the LA Lakers’ Kyle Kuzma.

The event is produced by Jason and Christina Wise (SOMM Documentary Films and SOMM TV), and the auction will be hosted by Master of Wine Vanessa Conlin, Head of Wine at Wine Access, and world-renowned auctioneer Fritz Hatton.
