Over the first nine months of 2007, Italian wine exports continue to rise. Compared to the same period last year, the progression was an increase in 12% in volume to the United States and, from a larger
base, by 8% to the members of the European Union. The Italian department of statistics, which announced that exports were up by 12% in value for the first six months of 2007, is certain that - after surpassing the €3bn mark in 2006 - exports will set another new record year. According to Nielsen figures, Italian wines now command a 7.7% share of the American wine market, slightly behind Australia with 8.8% on the import charts, but well ahead of Chile with 2.1% and France with 2.0%. Three in four bottles consumed in the United States was also produced there.
