According to the German Department of Statistics, 1,481.4m litres of wine were imported into Germany in the full year to the end of September 2007. Value was up by 7.5% and volume by 7.8% over the same twelve
month period before. With total value registered at €2.02bn ($2.98b), the average import price was down marginally to €1.36 ($2) per litre. With retailers stocking their shelves for the holiday season, the average was nonetheless higher at €1.46 per litre for the sole month of September. With 660m litres at an average price of €1.09 per litre, Italy continues to lead the import charts in volume with 44.3% of the market, well ahead of France in second and Spain in third place.
