Georgia has been increasingly relying more on wine exports in recent years – with great success. According to the National Wine Agency of the Department of Agriculture, the value of exports between January and July 2021 reached a value of US$125m, nine percent more than in the same period last year. Volumes rose by twelve percent to a total of 55 million bottles, indicating a slightly lower average price per litrre.

The five most important export countries are Russia (+9%), Ukraine (+15%), Poland (+28%), China (+7%) and Kazakhstan (+35%). However, Georgia is working on gaining a stronger foothold in other strategically important wine markets around the world. The British market, for example, grew by 85 percent, in the USA the export value rose by 35 percent, Germany grew by 18 percent, and Lithuania by 51 percent.

Georgia relies on various marketing measures in the respective countries. In the USA, for example, producers now make over three times as many visits to the market as they did in 2015L 200, compares to 60. Sseminars, tastings, newsletters, social media and classic media campaigns are also paying dividends.

Georgia produces a total of around two million hectoliters of wine. Around 100 million bottles were sold in 58 countries last year. aw
