Exports to the United States up 18% in first quarter

Italy’s wine exports to the United States have risen considerably in the first quarter of 2007. In terms of volume these equate to 18.3% and in value to 18.1% over exports registered in 2006. According to the figures published by

the Italian Wine & Food Institute, Italy holds the top position in wine exports to the US which are valued at US$145.4 million and is second in position in terms of volume, behind Australia, with a total volume of 304,350 hectolitres, against the 370,640 hectolitres of wine imported from Australia, which includes 93,250 hectolitres of bulk .

The following wine imports for the first quarter of 2007 to US have been registered by the Italian Wine & Food Institute:

Australia up by 14,5% in quantity and 11,5% in value;
France down by 2,9% in quantity and up by 4,3% in value;
Chile up by 8,2% in quantity and 15,2% in value;
Argentina up by 132,5% in quantity and 81,5% in value.
