The Salon de Vin took place for a fifth time in Sofia between 15th and 18th November. It was promoted as the only professional wine exhibition in Sofia, the most important market in Bulgaria for both producers and importers. The fair brought
together a motley mixture of about 20 wine producers and importers, with both Bibendum and GIV's company present. Salon de Vin s ambitious start five years ago aimed to develop it as a strong competitor to the oldest wine fair in the country Vinaria, which takes place in Bulgaria s second largest city, Plovdiv. However, Vinaria is still unrivalled, in terms of scale. Despite good perspectives for wine in the domestic market, consumption of 6 litres per capita is quite small and many producers believe that participation in two wine fairs still does not pay back. However, the fair attracted wine professionals, buyers and connoisseurs alike.
