The Louis Roederer Wine Writer Awards have attracted a new sponsor. Montblanc, a German company that’s particularly known for its luxury pens, will sponsor the Emerging Wine Writer category. The winner of that category will receive one of their pens, which typically retail for hundreds—if not thousands—of dollars.

The Louis Roederer Wine Writer Awards, now in their 15th year, are one of the world’s premier wine writing awards, founded in 2004 to celebrate and encourage wine writing. Montblanc will be joining existing sponsors Domaines Ott*, Domaine Faiveley, Pio Cesare, Marchesi Mazzei and Ramos Pinto.

While the majority of winners are British and North American wine writers, the awards are open to writers from anywhere. The winners roster reads like a who’s who of wine writing, with names including James Halliday, Andrew Jefford, Tim Atkin MW and Jancis Robinson MW.

The shortlist for the 2019 awards will be announced at the end of July, and the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony to be held at the Royal Academy of Arts in Londonon the evening of 18th September.
