Megavino in Brussels a success

by Herve Lalau

Megavino, the Belgian wine fair, took place from the 21st to the 23rd of October in Brussels. Although for want of a Belgian tradeshow it attracted many professionals, the event was conceived for private consumers. 10,000 wines from over 20 countries were shown, hinting that Belgian customers are no longer solely focused on products of French origin. No figures have been released yet, but the total of 16,896 visitors last year should be surpassed. The 2006 edition featured Portugal as the guest of honour. Alentejo, with more than 15 exhibitors, impressed visitors with its value for money propositions. Large Belgian importers like Fourcroy were represented as were subsidiaries of major groups like Pernod-Ricard. Several professional tastings took place on the premises (Col D Orcia 1977 to 2001, Ornellaia ), showing the interest of these producers for the Belgian market. Local television and radio stations gave the event a good coverage. More info: info@vinopres.com (Alain Bloeykens).
