The president of the Trentino group Mezzacorona Luca Rigotti has been appointed Chair of the Working Party for Wine within Copa-Cogeca in Brussels. Copa-Cogeca is the association of the two major agricultural umbrella organisations in the European Union. Copa is the European farmers' association, Cogeca the EU umbrella organisation of agricultural cooperatives.

The 56-year-old lawyer is the first Italian to lead the wine sector of this representative interest group in European agriculture. Luca Rigotti succeeded Ruenza Santandrea as coordinator of the Italian wine cooperatives in 2019, the highest Italian wine office within the "Alleanza cooperative Agroalimentari," the federation of umbrella organisations of agricultural cooperatives. Santandrea was also heavily involved within the EU wine groups.

"I will carry out my mandate in the spirit of continuity of the important work that Thierry Coste has done in recent years. Special thanks go to him for the professionalism and commitment he has shown. I believe it is essential to continue the dialogue and active participation of all countries in this group.  Only in this way will we be able to face and conquer the many challenges of this sector. I know this is true in general, but even more so in this period of extreme difficulties in the sector," said Luca Rigotti when he took office.

He attaches particular importance to continuing and promoting a profitable dialogue with the European institutions and the EU organisations responsible for the wine sector. The Trentino succeeds the Frenchman Thierry Coste in office, who had led the wine group for eleven years. vc
