On December 1st, after three years under the leadership of Jean-Guillaume Prats, the Domaines Baron de Rothschild Lafite will once again be fully under family control. Saskia de Rothschild who has chaired the group since taking over from her father Eric in 2018, will take responsibility for management of the business from Prats who the group say wants to "dedicate himself to his family business and consulting".
Ms de Rothschild, who was born in 1987, had a previous career as an investigative journalist working on stories such as the first female U.S. Marines sent to fight in Afghanistan and the La Maca prison in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast.
Jean-Guillaume Prats, is the former banker, CEO of Chateau Cos d’Estournel and president of the wine division of LVMH.
Saskia de Rothschild said in her statement:" For four years, Jean-Guillaume Prats helped breathe new life into all our estates and we are very grateful to him." She added that family-led management was in line with sustainable developments in their domains. "We strive to meet the social and environmental challenges of tomorrow and continue to produce 'magical' wines," she said.
Domaines Baron de Rothschild says it owns about 1,200 hectares of vineyards, including the Grands Crus Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Duhart-Milon in Pauillac, Château Rieussec in Sauternes and Château L'Evangile in Pomerol. The group's holdings outside Bordeaux include Domaines d'Aussieres in Languedoc, Viña Los Vascos in Chile, the Bodega Caro joint venture with the Argentinian winemaking family Catena, and Domaine de Long Dai in China.
