Italy s guides see eye to eye on only two wines

Italy has many heads and even more ideas, says Angelo Gaja. There are few countries, which pride themselves so on individualism, as if it were a

national sport. It s almost a given that each and every opinion differs, especially when it comes to politics even wine politics .

The updated publications of the five principal wine guides made their debut this October, during which time much debate and discussion takes place on who achieved what, did they really deserve it and what are the politics behind the awards and scores? For 2006 the fives top awards have unanimously agreed on only two wines: Tuscany s Galatrona 2004 from Fattoria di Petrolo and Campania s Montevetrano 2004 from the eponymous estate.
