Last Monday, the Spanish National Court in Madrid opened an investigation against the four Valdepeñas producers J. Carcía Garrión, Félix Solís, Bodegas Navarro López and Bodegas Fernando Castro. By order of the public prosecutor's office, it is to be examined whether the four wineries are guilty of fraud by falsifying wine.

The accusation of having marketed significant amounts of faked Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines has been around for quite some time. According to the public prosecutor's office, there is a suspicion that the producers have not complied with the ageing periods in barriques and on the bottle stipulated by the Spanish wine law. The marketing figures of the vintages 2010 to 2019 are to be checked in order to compare them, among others, with the volumes registered by the responsible wine authority of the Valdepeñas DOP. ds
