The wine merchant Becky Wasserman-Hone has died at the age of 84. As numerous media report, she succumbed to a respiratory disease.

The US-American Wasserman-Hone became known as a wine importer who explicitly supported small and lesser-known French wine estates. In 1968, she moved to the small village of Bouilland near Beaune in Burgundy, where she initially traded in oak barrels and became more and more interested in the wine itself. In 1979, she founded her import company Le Serbet, now known as Becky Wasserman & Co. She thus enabled numerous wineries to enter the US market, for example by being one of the first to facilitate consolidated container transport so that smaller wineries could also export.

Wasserman-Hone is survived by her husband and two sons.
